Updated: Aug 1, 2020

A great film is the one which will strike your brain and move your spirit. Incredible stories of transformation, overcoming immense struggles, and an average person's journey to heroism- these are some of the tales of inspirational movies that are bound to be etched in our minds forever and inspire us in ways that we were never aware of in the first place. This post covers some unique movies worth inspiring everyone.

  • CHARULATA

With its nineteenth-century liberal upper-class background, Charulata or The Lonely Wife focusses on the relationship between the characters and the web of conflicting emotions that lead to the development of the plot and its denouement. It is one of the most popular films of Satyajit Ray. It has an exceptional cast of Madhabi Mukherjee, Shailen Mukherjee, and Soumitra Chatterjee.

The film tells the story of the romantics Amal and Charu who build a nest- a private universe of poetry for themselves. Soon the friendship develops into an intense love in a subtle way. Its force catalyzes a domestic tragedy that puts in check their morals, fidelity as well as forgiveness. The two elements worth noticing in the film are Charulata's independence and the insubordinate spirit. Her anxious to fill the void in her life is manifested in her passion for Amal. The demonstrated forgiveness of Bhupati as he comprehends his wife as an individual characterized by personal feelings and emotions establishes the principle of gender equality.

The message that the movie possesses is some things simply happen and you cannot control them in any way. It is always better to go with the flow than upsetting the equilibrium. Overall, the film seamlessly mirrors an emotional crescendo.

  • FORREST GUMP

The film may be categorized as a drama or a comedy. The storyline depicts a mentally retarded man with a golden heart. The movie has won Oscars and several other awards. It stars Sally Field, Tom Hanks, Gary Sinise, and other brilliant stars.

The description of Robert Zemeckis' film Forrest Gump as the story of a naive and somewhat idiotic savant might not be accurate to some extent. Adorably childlike Gump leads a life of charm as he grows up with his loving mother. One cannot resist being sympathetic to the main character who initially finds it difficult to cope with some of the simpler things in life. The female protagonist, Jenny Curran had a troublesome childhood as she was subject to sexual abuse from her father. Jenny cares for Gump but at the same time disappoints him by leaving him numerous times. Forrest has a disarrayed life not only because of his IQ of 75 but also due to his crooked back. Forrest also has to cope with death, a predominant aspect of his life.

The movie illustrates the theme that one should not give up on life no matter how hard it gets. On the contrary, life is about managing the obstacles one faces on the path and how meticulously he pulls himself through them. The film also showcases how one should accept himself for who he is and what he does.

  • KAMLA KI MAUT

Directed by Basu Chatterjee, Kamla Ki Maut, or Death of Kamla is a Hindi drama film that was released in 1989. With its backdrop in Mumbai, the movie deals with several taboo issues such as pre-marital affairs, sex, and pregnancy in present-day India. It stars some of the most talented actors such as Pankaj Kapur, Rupa Ganguly, and the late Irrfan Khan.

The story revolves around a 20-year-old and unmarried girl, Kamla who commits suicide when she is unable to deal with the news of her pregnancy. Her untimely suicide makes her neighbors ponder over their lives. Her neighbor, Sudhakar Patel, the father of two daughters Geeta and Charu, is tremendously shattered by Kamla's death. They are not only of the same age as Kamla but also study in the same college. Geeta and Charu have boyfriends and some hidden secrets from their parents. When Sudhakar and his wife Nirmala discovers that Kamla committed suicide due to premarital pregnancy, they remember the mistakes during their younger days in flashback. The family members' past demons surface and their lives change forever as the film unfolds.

The film successfully explores the tendency the society exhibits for shaming people who display their urges. During those days, sex between two consenting adults was a taboo topic in India. Therefore, the film was definitely ahead of its time in the 80s. It portrays the phenomenal reality that life is long and everyone has to face a struggle and battle it.

Films are undoubtedly a powerful source of inspiration besides being an extraordinary medium of entertainment. They make us laugh, cry, and think out of the box. In other words, they tell us how life is worth living by accepting all the opportunities that come along.
