Books are the only thing that can transform you into a newer world without actually going anywhere. They are not a want but a need. Books can be your escape and maybe your friend. Books can be pleasurable and painful, enjoyable and fathomable. However, it is it makes sure to leave an impact.
I’m sure that you may have come across many sites and blogs which talks about the top 10 books that you must read and this here is my little precious list. Take a look:
1. 1984 – George Orwell

This book here is one of the most famous books of all time and for a good reason. It’s a dystopian novel set in 1984. Orwell imagined a place where their every actions and movement were controlled and manipulated by the government with the concept of Big Brother(the all-seeing eye)nothing can escape from him not even your innermost thoughts thus destroying your identity and individuality. This book is an interesting classic and one of my favourites. Fun fact it was a banned book, one more reason to pick it up!
2. A Thousand Splendid Suns – Khaled Hosseini

Do you want to feel your heart wrenched and soul clenched and even ugly cry? This book can satisfy that need. Hosseini is a personal favourite and this book is simply amazing. Set in Afghan, this is a female-centred story and has a strong essence of abuse, child marriage, domestic violence and separation. It may look like a heavy topic but the characters and plot are worth it. Kite Runner is also one of his notable books worth reading.
3. A Man Called Ove – Fredrik Backman

Third, on my list is a book by Backman. Ove is an old guy with a grumpy attitude who doesn’t seem to show any other emotions other than that. He got no one and even the neighbours fear him. This book shows his life and how something that can be seen on the outside can be different on the inside. It’s a light read but may leave a heavy impact. Choose this if you love and miss your grandparents.
4. Harry Potter Series –J.K.Rowling

This series is the most popular book series to ever exist and most people might have already read it and if you haven’t I’ll give you some reasons to pick it up immediately:
· Magic
. Friendship
· A whole new world
· Adventurous battles
· Admirable characters
Read it if you desire comfort and excitement in your life!
5. The Palace Of Illusions –Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni

This book’s main theme is to retell the story of Mahabharata from a woman’s view particularly Draupadi’s view. This book is strong and smart, fierce and quick and completely changes our perspective of Mahabharata since no one ever told it from a woman’s point of view thus making it unique.
6. Frankenstein – Mary Shelly

If you are into Gothic novels and a fan of science and horror fiction, this book will be a feast to you. Frankenstein is written by Mary Shelly at the early age of 18, some even consider this novel as the first science fiction to exist. This book talks about a monster rather a hideous figure and how everyone considers it as an abomination and how it struggles to fit in the world.
7. The Diary of a Young Girl –Anne Frank

This book is a memoir which is taken from the pages of the diary of Anne Frank. She was only 15 years old when she died of Typhus. Anne got the diary when she was only 13 and her family went into hiding because of Nazis. Anne is an extraordinary girl who had greater knowledge than kids of her age. From this book, you can take a peek at the life of an ordinary teenage girl in the time of Nazis. After all, diaries contain one’s innermost thoughts without any edits.
8. Adventures of Sherlock Holmes –Arthur Conan Doyle

Nobody can ever say they haven’t been “Sher-locked” yet. I mean when it comes to detectives, the first name that comes to our mind is Sherlock Holmes. The novels and short stories written by Doyle based on Sherlock are a huge hit. His books have suspense, thriller, comedy and whatnot. Ideal for people who loves a little bit of mystery in their lives.
9. Poems of Rumi –Rumi

The collection of Rumi’s various poems are translated into many languages and have been published into a book with many versions. But every version has the unique mystic touch of Rumi. His collections of poems are often called as “The Quran in Persian”.it gives tranquillity, wisdom and enlightenment to whoever reads it.
10. Beloved –Toni Morrison

This book Beloved talk about slavery it emphasises about the life of a black woman who was a slave and how she escaped. It portrays how bad her life turned out even after escaping slavery and also how she killed her child whom she named Beloved in the end. Pick this up to broaden your knowledge on racism, slavery and the effects of it.
“A Reader lives a thousand lives”
